Card Description: Each card is modeled upon a real tree species. There are over 600 tree species native to North America. Physical appearances and climate preferences vary greatly between species. While one species may grow quickly in a sunny swamp, another may prefer a dry shady forest.

Scientific Name: Each tree species has a unique scientific name. The name consists of two words: the genus name (Capitalized); & the species name (lower case). Use to identify Preferred Species.

Background Color: Color reflects the tree’s soil moisture range. Green indicates a balanced range. Blue is weighted toward wet habitats. Yellow is weighted toward dry habitats.

Growth Sols: Number of Sols that must be spent to grow the tree into the canopy. Use when growing a tree. Trees with an (*) can not grow into the canopy.

Planting Sols: Number of Sols that must be spent to plant the tree in a habitat. Use when planting a tree.

Water Range: Range of soil moisture in which the tree is typically found. Use when planting a tree, during Water Disasters, or when a Weather-Trend card is played.

Temperature Range: Range of Hardiness Zones in which the tree is naturally found. Use when planting a tree, during Temperature Disasters, or when a Weather-Trend card is played.

Sun Strength: How well the tree grows in the sun. Principally based upon the tree’s growth rate, but the following are also considered: successional status, range of soil types in which found, salt tolerance, allelopathy, & mature height. Use in Sun Tree Combat.

Shade Strength: How well the tree grows in the shade. Principally based upon the tree’s shade tolerance, but the following are also considered: successional status, range of soil types in which found, salt tolerance, allelopathy, mature height, & longevity. Use in Shade Tree Combat.

Fire Strength: A measure of the trees resistance to fire. The rating is based on an evaluation of: tree height, bark thickness, clear trunk/bole length, trunk diameter, root depth, & longevity. Use in Fire Disasters.

Wind Strength: A measure of the trees resistance to wind. The rating is based on an evaluation of: tree height, wood strength, root distribution, disease resistance, & longevity. Use in Wind Disasters.
