Make a Tree Card

Objective: Students will research a tree species and create their very own tree card.

Supplies:

• Tree reference resources (see our on-line resource guide in the Science Section).
• Art supplies.
• Imagination

Procedure:

1. For each student, select one or two trees for individual evaluation (trees not included in the game).
2. Gather information from at least two sources.
3. Evaluate the information found (Do the sources agree, where do they agree and disagree, by how much do the resources disagree, why is the information different).
4. Write a brief paragraph describing the tree.
5. Make up a single sentence quote highlighting some aspect of the tree.
6. In a caricature of the tree, what aspects would you enhance to portray the tree.
7. Draw a caricature picture of the tree.
8. Using the information gathered, set up the picture like a Mighty Trees card.
9. Submit your favorite new characters for possible posting on the Mighty Trees website.
